Tree Mortality and Tree Inventory Workshop
On Thursday, May 23, 2019, the Tree Wardens’ Association of Connecticut will present their spring workshop. The topic this year is Tree Mortality and Tree Inventories. The all-day event will be held at the Windham-Tolland 4-H Camp in Pomfret, CT. The 250 acre property has a lodge on a pond, beach, trails, and amphitheater. For those traveling from afar, we have secured rooms at a reduced rate from two nearby hotels. Your registration will include a hot breakfast and BBQ lunch. Tree mortality due to Emerald Ash Borer, Gypsy moth, and drought is a significant problem in municipalities across Connecticut and New England. The workshop will kick off with a discussion on the main causes of tree mortality in Connecticut. The first step to managing the risks that these dead and hazardous trees pose is to complete a tree inventory. A tree inventory can provide valuable information in terms of number of dead trees, location of dead trees, and cost to mitigate dead trees. A tree inventory is also important when considering where and what species to replant and a keystone to a successful and comprehensive urban forest management plan. Choosing the right tree inventory software or consultant for your needs can be daunting. At this workshop we will cover the reasons WHY you need an inventory and show you HOW to conduct and design an inventory. Attendees will be introduced to the various options for tree inventories and receive hands-on instruction and demonstration from the leaders in tree inventory software and consulting services. Representatives from Bartlett Inventory Services, Davey Resource Group, Sav-A-Tree, TreeWorks, and TreePlotter will be available to showcase their product or service. This workshop is appropriate for tree wardens, deputy tree wardens, arborists, elected officials, risk managers, tree commissions, and anyone interested in tree inventories. Please bring your tablet or phone and water bottle. Registration includes a hot breakfast and BBQ lunch. Registration is available online at https://www.cttreewardens.org/events.htm. You may also fill out and return the included registration form with payment.
